CAOHC to Present Certification Course for the Professional Supervisor in 2006 

Milwaukee , Wisconsin – The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) will present a course leading to certification for “The Professional Supervisor of the Audiometric Monitoring Component of Hearing Conservation Programs” in three locations in 2006.

Federal recordkeeping and reporting requirements are increasing demands for audiologists and physicians that can serve as “Professional Supervisors” of hearing conservation programs. This workshop offers a comprehensive tutorial for audiologists wishing to expand their expertise in hearing conservation practices. Lectures and case presentations will illuminate details of regulatory requirements and successful hearing loss prevention programs, including these topics:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the Professional Supervisor
  • Elements and organization of successful hearing conservation programs
  • Surviving new OSHA and MSHA recordkeeping regulations
  • Latest tools to identify and prevent noise-induced hearing loss
  • Guidelines for audiometric baseline revision and medical referral
  • Managing “problem audiograms”
  • Work relatedness and workers compensation

The first course, aimed at audiologists, will be held prior to the American Academy of Audiology convention, in Washington, DC on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at the Hilton Minneapolis, Minneapolis, MN.

A similar course for physicians will be conducted by CAOHC and sponsored through the American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) at the American Occupational Health Conference (AOHC) on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the Century Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles, CA.

A third course will be aimed at audiologists and physicians on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Sheraton Gateway Suites Hotel O'Hare, Rosemont, IL.

The faculty will include Richard Danielson, PhD; Peter Rabinowitz, MD MPH; Theresa Schulz, PhD, Mary McDaniel, MS CCC-A, Paul Brownson, MD FACOEM and Laurie Wells, MS. Attendees will receive continuing education credits, a copy of the Hearing Conservation Manual 4th Edition (with valuable ANSI and OSHA standards), and unique training materials.

The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) is an organization dedicated to the establishment and maintenance of training standards for those who safeguard hearing in the workplace.
