CAOHC to Present Two Professional Certification Courses

Milwaukee, Wisconsin – The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) is conducting Hearing Conservation: Professional Supervision of Audiometry as a Learning Lab on the program of AudiologyNOW! at their 2007 conference of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA). This course will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm in Denver, Colorado. Individuals completing this lab may apply to CAOHC for certification as a Professional Supervisor of Audiometric Monitoring (CPS/A).

Federal recordkeeping and reporting requirements are increasing demands for audiologists and physicians who can serve as “Professional Supervisors” of hearing conservation programs. Lectures and case presentations will illuminate details of regulatory requirements and successful hearing loss prevention programs, including these topics:

• Roles and responsibilities of the Professional Supervisor
• Elements and organization of successful hearing conservation programs
• Surviving new OSHA and MSHA recordkeeping regulations
• Latest tools to identify and prevent noise-induced hearing loss
• Guidelines for audiometric baseline revision and medical referral
• Managing “problem audiograms”
• Work relatedness and workers compensation

The faculty will include Richard Danielson, PhD; Mary McDaniel, AuD; and Theresa Schulz, PhD. Attendees will receive continuing education or medical credits, a copy of the Hearing Conservation Manual 4th Edition (with valuable ANSI and OSHA standards), and unique training materials.

COURSE DIRECTOR WORKSHOP

Milwaukee, Wisconsin -- The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) will hold a Course Director Workshop on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Convention Center, Denver, Colorado. This workshop is a requirement for:

1. New Course Director candidates with applications approved by the CAOHC Screening Committee; and
2. Course Directors (CDs) certified or recertified in 2002 who have not yet recertified.

Course Directors are responsible for planning and conducting CAOHC-approved training courses for Occupational Hearing Conservationists (OHCs). The Director is responsible for ensuring that specific CAOHC course guidelines are followed and for determining the qualifications and competence of participating faculty members.

This workshop has been designed to meet the differing needs of new and recertifying Course Directors. Changes include greater opportunity for CDs to share real-life situations, engage in discussion on the responsibilities and limitations of the Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist in recordkeeping and regulations (OSHA, MSHA) and compensation issues.

The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) is an organization dedicated to the establishment and maintenance of training standards for those who safeguard hearing in the workplace.
