1) AAA INVITED TO JOIN CAOHC COUNCIL
2) NEW REPRESENTATIVES APPOINTED TO CAOHC COUNCIL

(Milwaukee, Wisconsin) - The American Academy of Audiology (AAA) recently joined the CAOHC Council as one of nine Component Professional Organizations (CPO) with representation on the Council. The American Academy of Audiology is dedicated to providing quality hearing and balance care by advancing the profession of audiology through leadership, advocacy, education, public awareness and research support. The Academy provides a vibrant, interactive forum for its 8,000+ members to exchange ideas and discuss common professional issues involving new technology, continuing education, certification and licensure, regulatory and legislative developments and more. The Academy serves as a liaison between the profession, the government, and the public, and exercises an authoritative voice on hearing and balance issues.

Richard Danielson, PhD will serve as one of two representatives for AAA. Danielson received his PhD from the University of Texas at Dallas and served as an Army audiologist and hearing conservation consultant for over 28 years. He is currently employed by Baylor College of Medicine and the National Space and Biomedical Research Institute, Houston TX, and assigned as the Manager for Audiology and Hearing Conservation, Johnson Space Center - National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He supports NASA's International Space Station and Shuttle hearing loss prevention programs among astronaut crew, pilots, and other noise-exposed personnel. Danielson also provides audiological services to NASA, including its unique on-orbit hearing assessment program. He is a faculty member of the Central Michigan University/Vanderbilt.

Mark R. Stephenson, PhD will serve as a second representative for the American Academy of Audiology (AAA). Stephenson is employed as a Research Audiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Cincinnati, Ohio, where he conducts and directs research to prevent occupational hearing loss. His PhD was awarded in 1986 by the Ohio State University in Hearing Science/Audiology. Stephenson holds adjunct faculty appointments at Miami University (Oxford) and Ohio State University. Prior to joining CDC/NIOSH, Stephenson served for 20 years in the USAF. At the time of his retirement from the AF, he was responsible for the AF Audiology and Hearing Conservation programs.

The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) is an organization dedicated to the establishment and maintenance of training standards for those who safeguard hearing in the workplace. CAOHC has been a leader in providing standards for occupational hearing conservation programs since its inception in 1973. Currently there are over 21,000 CAOHC certified occupational hearing conservationists trained through CAOHC Course Directors to protect the hearing health of workers in industry and mining.
