Course Director Workshop Planned for November 2006
Milwaukee, Wisconsin -- The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) will hold a Course Director Workshop on Friday, November 10, 2006 at the Sheraton Gateway Suites O'Hare in Rosemont, IL (near the O'Hare International Airport). This workshop is a requirement for:
- New Course Director candidates with applications approved by the CAOHC Screening Committee; and
- Course Directors (CDs) certified or recertified in 2001 who have not yet recertified.
Course Directors are responsible for planning and conducting CAOHC-approved training courses for Occupational Hearing Conservationists (OHCs). The Director is responsible for ensuring that specific CAOHC course guidelines are followed and for determining the qualifications and competence of participating faculty members. This workshop has been revised to meet the differing needs of new and recertifying Course Directors. Changes include greater opportunity for CDs to share real-life situations, engage in discussion on the responsibilities and limitations of the Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist in recordkeeping and regulations (OSHA, MSHA) and compensation issues.
Whether you are new to CAOHC or a veteran, this workshop is a worthwhile educational and professional experience. Application and registration forms are required and available on the CAOHC website at www.caohc.org. Candidates for certification and recertification must submit applications by October 30, 2006. Applications are reviewed and approved by the CAOHC Screening Committee.
The Course Director Workshop is an opportunity to gain professional experience in the field of hearing conservation. CAOHC is an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and American Academy of Audiology (AAA) approved provider offering .7 continuing education credits. In addition, 8.7 contact hours for continuing education in nursing have been approved through the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. AAOHN is an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center 's Commission on Accreditation. 1.0 Industrial Hygiene CM Points will be awarded by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) to Certified Industrial Hygienist and CAIH for successful completion of this workshop.
This Course Director Workshop will also be held in April 2007 in Denver, Colorado at a location to be announced.
