To Audit or Certify?

TO AUDIT THE COURSE:

If you only want to AUDIT this course for continuing education credits, you do not need to complete the steps below; just click on the green button that says "Audit the Course" and follow the prompts. You must have a valid DoD or VA ID to register for this course.

Participants who do not yet qualify for the exam, can register to audit the course now, then once qualified, can take the exam within a year of the course (contact the CAOHC Education Manager to set up the CD Exam once qualification have been met).

TO CERTIFY (or recertify) AS A COURSE DIRECTOR (CD) - a 3-Step Process:

STEP #1 -  COMPLETE THE PREREQUISITE FORM:
To become certified as a Course Director (CD) you must first provide proof of completing these three Prerequisites. Click the green button called "Complete CD Prerequisites" and follow the prompts to upload your documents of proof. Those recertifying just need to upload a current license into this Prerequisite Form. Note that approval of your prerequisites by CAOHC staff may take a week or longer so please plan ahead.

STEP 2: REGISTER FOR THE COURSE AND EXAM:
Once your Prerequisite Form has been approved, only then will our system allow you to register for the course and exam. You must have a valid DoD or VA ID to register for this course. Select the green button "Register for Course + Exam" and follow the prompts.
NOTE: Exam fees must be paid by the individual at the time of registration and are as follows: $200 for newly certifying, $150 for those re-certifying. The DoD typically does not cover the exam expense.

STEP 3: ATTEND THE COURSE AND TAKE THE EXAM
Once registered, you will receive two automated emails: one is a receipt of payment and the other contains login information to your course materials. Login and complete the required pre-course work prior to attending the course.

Course Description

DoD is hosting this Course Director (CD) Certification training.
The Course consists of eight hours of focused training intended to prepare candidates to teach their own students about all aspects of an Occupational Hearing Conservation (OHC) program. Special attention will be paid to adult learning teaching methods and how to conduct both the hearing protection and audiometric practicum sections of an OHC course.

CD certification and re-certification are granted for five years.

Course curriculum will include guidance in the following areas:

  • Developing course curricula that meet CAOHC’s current requirements for COHC certification and recertification courses
  • Understanding procedural actions of a CD required by CAOHC before, during and after CAOHC-approved COHC courses
  • Implementing contemporary and motivational teaching techniques and resources (including those provided by CAOHC) for effective hearing conservation training
  • Recognizing how recent changes in federal hearing conservation regulations influence the conduct of CAOHC-approved COHC courses
  • Preparing instructional materials that incorporate recent scientific and technical advances in hearing conservation for use in training conducted by CDs and COHCs

Who May Attend:

Department of Defense or Veterans Administration Audiologists, Occupational Health Physicians, Otolaryngologists, Occupational Health Nurses, Industrial Hygienists, Noise Control Engineers, and Safety Professionals. All attendees must meet requirements of a Course Director as outlined in the CAOHC Policies and Procedures before the Course Director credential will be issued. Candidates must be certified audiologists, industrial hygienists, occupational health nurses, speech language and hearing professionals, safety engineers, noise-control engineers, otolaryngologists or occupational medical physicians..
