CAOHC was created in 1973 to fill the need for guidelines and standards in the occupational hearing conservation field. We are a non-profit association that certifies Audiometric Technicians working in industry through a prescribed curriculum conducted by certified Course Directors. Our certification period is five years. CAOHC is mentioned in the Federal Register 1910.95 as the educational standard and CAOHC certification is required for technicians working in the mining industry as indicated in the Mine Safety Health Act of 2000.

The mission of CAOHC is to promote the conservation of hearing by enhancing the quality of occupational hearing conservation programs by: providing education and information in occupational hearing conservation; providing standards and accreditation of personnel involved in occupational hearing conservation; promoting quality assurance of occupational hearing conservation programs; and promoting awareness and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss.
