Learning Objectives

After attending this course, participants will be able to:

• Define the roles and responsibilities of the Professional Supervisor of the Audiometric Monitoring Program (PS/A) in occupational hearing conservation programs (HCPs)
• Recognize key factors in the review of occupational audiometric databases, including:
  1. Problem audiograms
  2. Revising baselines
  3. Determining work-relatedness of hearing loss.
• Identify federal standards and regulations that apply to HCPs
• Identify the pathophysiologic factors of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and interactions between noise and other agents.
• Identify medical and legal aspects of managing an HCP
• Identify best practices of HCP management, including essential elements of a quality HCP, program audits, evaluations and resources.
• Differentiate between regulatory compliance and best practices for the prevention of NIHL.

Qualified Candidates

This course is intended for certified audiologists and physicians (MD, DO) who supervise and review audiometric testing for hearing conservation programs (HCP) or who are interested in doing so.
