Who is the Course Director?

The Course Director (CD) is a credentialed or licensed hearing loss prevention specialist responsible for coordinating and conducting CAOHC-approved classes leading to certification as a Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC). CDs are credentialed or licensed in audiology, industrial hygiene, occupational health nursing, otolaryngology, occupational medicine, noise-control engineering or safety, and have demonstrated expertise in hearing loss prevention.

How do I become a Course Director?

A Course Director (CD) candidate must have specific training and experience. To become a certified CD, you must satisfy CAOHC's professional criteria, including completion of an 8-hour CAOHC CD Workshop. Where do I find a course?

CAOHC Course Director training is typically done two-three times per year. To view scheduled training dates and locations, check the CAOHC Course Director Training page. Training dates and locations will be added to the Course Director Training page throughout the year.

How does CAOHC Support Course Directors?

  • Your approved OHC courses are listed on the CAOHC’s website to help you increase attendance.
  • Your Course Director contact information is listed in the CAOHC CD directory
  • Virtual Course Director meetings are held regularly to help you improve your courses
  • CAOHC provides an extensive library of online resources specifically developed for CDs. 
  • CAOHC sells mailing list to CDs which include expiring COHCs needing a recertification course.
