Timothy Hicks Appointed to Serve on CAOHC Council
Timothy Hicks, MSPH, CIH, CSP of Golden, Colorado has been appointed to serve as a council member for The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) representing the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). Mr. Hicks is replacing Don Garvey, CIH CSP, who has retired from his corporate position and his appointment to the CAOHC Council.
In his professional life, Mr. Hicks serves as a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Executive with broad ranging technical experience in public health and industrial hygiene. He holds a Master of Science – Public Health from Tulane University. He has over 20 years of experience in occupational health and safety and is currently President of HHS Consulting, Inc. of Charleston, SC./Golden, CO.
Andrew Perkins Appointed to Serve on CAOHC Council
Andrew Perkins, M.S., CIH, CSP, COHC of Birmingham, AL has been approved to serve as council member for The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) representing the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). Mr. Perkins is replacing Karin Emmonds-Wetzel who has retired from her corporate position and her appointment to the CAOHC Council.
In his professional life, Mr. Perkins serves as a Senior Industrial Hygienist at Alabama Power Company a Southern Company. He holds a Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene Option from Murry State University, Kentucky. He has over 14 years of experience in occupational health and safety.
Mr. Hicks and Mr. Perkins will provide guidance related to occupational hearing conservation programs to help advance best practice through the establishment and maintenance of meaningful educational opportunities, certifications and research. The term as a council member is five years. As a council member they will collaborate with leadership from eight other component organizations to continue the mission of CAOHC.
With the mission “to advance best practice in occupational hearing conservation worldwide,” The Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) is dedicated to the establishment and maintenance of training standards for those who safeguard hearing in the workplace. The organization bridges the gap of knowledge between academic, medical, military, occupational and environmental channels. It supports the development of professionals, advances research and provides guidance for improved quality-of-life by developing and promoting meaningful educational opportunities, material and products surrounding hearing conservation. The organization sets the bar for best practice and provides credentials to demonstrate competency. They are a go-to source for professionals since they provide framework and resources and are recognized as a leader throughout regulatory and public safety fields worldwide. CAOHC has been a leader in these specific programs since its inception in 1973.
The CAOHC Council consists of representatives from the following organizations: American Academy of Audiology (AAA), American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN), The American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), American College of Occupational Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), The Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) and the Military Audiology Association (MAA).
